How to update your skin care routine for fall

The leaves are changing and it's getting darker earlier and earlier. Fall is here. With the changing seasons comes a need to adjust your skin care routine a bit.

October is a time of transition and it is the ideal time to repair and renew your skin. The recent summer temperatures -- and extra sun exposure -- likely did a bit of damage to your skin, so now is your opportunity to do a bit of repair and prep your complexion for the upcoming winter.

1. Exfoliate your skin.

Lift dead skin cells, which make your skin look ashy and dry, with a gentle exfoliant. Exfoliation is one of the most important steps in any skin care routine, yet it continues to be one of the most overlooked. Everyone needs to exfoliate.

Why? When dead skin cells are sitting on top of your skin, pores become clogged. You will likely either experience acne or your skin will just look dull and flaky (or both). Helping your skin slough off dead skin cells is essential because those clear pores will more readily absorb your other facial care products, helping them to work more effectively.

Use a gentle facial scrub or facial brush to manually exfoliate, or choose a chemical exfoliant such as AHA (alpha hydroxy acids). If you are oily or prone to blackheads, look for an exfoliant with salicylic acid (BHA).

2. Replenish lost moisture with Hyaluronic Acid.

Hyaluronic acid can hold 1000 times its weight in water, making it a powerful weapon against dehydration. It helps skin retain moisture and skin plumpness and it works like a sponge to draw water to the skin.

It can be used on all skin types, even oily, and experts agree that there really is no better ingredient to help provide an extra dose of moisture.

3. Pay extra attention to your hands.

Your hands -- overworked, often exposed, and typically neglected. It's the perfect recipe for a serious case of dryness and dull skin.

Look for a decadent and rich cream with natural butters and oils to help your hands always look their best. Seed's award-winning Healthy Hand Cream is a must in your skin care routine. Shea butter, jojoba, grape seed, sunflower seed, coconut oil, and more offer your hands (and cuticles) a truly pampering experience.

4. Don't forget the lips!

Summer sun damage + the upcoming chilly temps = chapped lips.

Ditch the waxy balms that do nothing other than coat the lips and treat this sensitive area to our water-free, wax-free nourishing lip oils. Seed Glide On Lip Oil provides pure, plant-based moisture from Mother Nature's finest natural oils and will soften, protect, and hydrate lips in a way a sticky, waxy balm just simply cannot.

Plus, smooth and soft lips are the secret to helping your lipstick and lip gloss go on evenly.

5. Switch out your lightweight body lotion for a rich cream.

We all love a silky, lightweight lotion, but now is the time to swap your lotion for a rich and luxurious body cream with skin pampering ingredients.

Choose a formula with ingredients like antioxidant grape seed oil, decadent shea butter, protective green tea, and sunflower seed oil, which can help skin retain moisture.

Seed Silky and Rich Body Cream is a great option -- and everyone adores it! Check out what our customer, Cindy, says about the cream:

"This body cream is the absolute dream! It is thick and rich yet is absorbed readily but not overly quickly allowing for me to bask in the luxury of soothing properties. Regular use of this has totally changed my skin. It is especially lovely after a bath, yet hands, arms, feet get almost daily treats with this. Just the best ever."

Just like you'd add some new sweaters and boots to your fall and winter wardrobe, making sure your skin care arsenal is appropriate for the weather is crucial as well.
